Maritime Growth Reported in first seven months of 2008
The maritime traffic shows a continuous growth in the amount of vessel visits. During the period from January 1st to the end of July 2008, 8504 vessels visited the Simpson Bay and the Simpson Bay Lagoon area compared to 8445 vessels during the same period in 2007.
These figures show that the area is becoming quite crowded since no more marinas or berthing slips have been added in recent years and many times during the season specially the larger vessels have had to anchor out in the Simpson Bay awaiting their turn to dock in one of the marinas.
A short survey amongst the stakeholders in the marine trade including the bars and restaurants amongst the borders of the Simpson Bay lagoon, have indicated that the last season was highly successful with annual sale growth in the double digits for most companies.
