Nevis cricketers deported from St Maarten

Members of the Nevis Cricket Association met late Monday evening in an emergency setting at the Elquemedo Willet Park.
The main agenda item was to discuss much circulated reports of indiscipline on the part of three Nevisian cricketers while representing Nevis in the NAGICO one day series in St Maarten last weekend.

Also present at the meeting were the manager of the Nevis team, Malcolm Ramsey and coach Stuart Williams.

During the discussions the following was revealed:

• Three cricketers, namely, Akito Willet, Jason Campbell and Junie Williams were arrested on Saturday, 2 October 2010, by the police in St Maarten for smoking and possession of marijuana.

• The three named cricketers were that same day deported from St Maarten and officially barred from reentering that territory for the next three years.

Based on this information the following decisions were made:

*Manager Malcolm Ramsey has been asked to present a written report to the Nevis Cricket Association regarding the incident.

* As soon as the report is received it will be forwarded to the members of the disciplinary committee and the players in question will be afforded a hearing before that body.

* The Nevis Cricket Association will then act in accordance with the recommendations of the disciplinary committee.

President Ronald Powell has indicated that his Association is committed to dealing with this matter urgently and decisively and has promised to make an official statement to the press by Wednesday of this week.
