National Alliance wins Island Council elections

The National Alliance (NA) of Commissioner William Marlin, won Fridays key election for Country St. Maarten with seven (7) of the available fifteen seats (15).

The United Peoples Party (UPP) obtained six (6) seats and the Democratic Party (DP) managed to take away Two (2) seats.

The National Alliance (NA) was shadowed at the polls by the newcomer, the United People’s Party (UPP) who lived up to the expectations, that was to do very well in their first election.

The new comers to the political arena out ran the Democratic Party of which the (UPP) leader Commissioner Theo Heyliger began his political career with.

The Democratic Party (DP) took the third place slot in the island council elections and they were followed by another new political party, the Concordia Political Alliance (CPA).

The counting of the votes which began after the polls closed at 7pm on Friday was also a tense affair for many as the initial count placed the United Peoples Party (UPP) in a close race with the National Alliance (NA).

The Concordia Political Alliance (CPA) of Mr. Jeffrey Richardson did not trouble the results. The main voting bureau will meet on Monday morning at 10am to verify the election results.
