Brought to you in partnership with Orco Bank under the Orco Cares Program
Philipsburg, August xx, 2026. Orco Bank, through its Orco Cares Program, is proud to announce a
new partnership with St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC), bringing two trusted community
institutions together with one shared purpose: supporting the health and well-being of the people of
Sint Maarten.
Beginning this September, the partnership will support SMMC’s community health initiatives, starting
with Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September, followed by Breast Cancer Awareness Month
in October, and continuing with patient and community support through the end of the year.
At the heart of the partnership is a shared belief in the importance of awareness, access to screening
and encouraging people to take an active role in their health. Through Orco Cares, Orco Bank will
provide funding, visibility and on-the-ground support to help strengthen SMMC’s existing community
health efforts.
For Judy King Richardson, Country Manager of Orco Bank Sint Maarten, this is also about what it
means for Orco Bank to be part of the community it serves.
“Sint Maarten is our home, and being part of this community means showing up for one another in
ways that truly matter,” said King Richardson. “Through Orco Cares, we want to help create
opportunities for people to take that important step of getting checked and taking care of their health.
Working alongside SMMC brings us even closer to our community and allows us to contribute in a
way that is personal, meaningful and lasting.”
That commitment will first come to life during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month in September.
Under the message “Man-Up. Check Up.”, SMMC will offer free PSA blood testing on three pre-testing
Saturdays, followed by Men’s Health Day, which will also include free HIV, glucose and blood-
pressure checks.
In October, the focus turns to Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Under the message “I got checked at
SMMC,” Women’s Health Day will provide free breast screening and general health checks, with
referrals available for follow-up imaging and clinical review at SMMC when needed.
For SMMC, Orco Bank’s support adds another community partner to health initiatives that are
already reaching people across Sint Maarten. SMMC’s breast cancer program has been running
since 2011, and its prostate cancer program since 2019, both carried out in partnership with the
Positive and Elektralytes Foundation, which has been instrumental in establishing and executing
these programs. Each event reaches approximately 200 people.
“We are very happy to welcome Orco Bank and its Orco Cares Program as a partner in these
important initiatives, and we are grateful to have them standing alongside us” said Shari de Riggs,
SMMC’s Senior Communications Officer
The partnership will continue beyond the September and October awareness campaigns. Through
the end of the year, Orco Cares will support the delivery of comfort packages for patients undergoing
treatment, as well as SMMC’s free HIV testing and patient support efforts.
Together, Orco Bank and SMMC hope to make each screening, each conversation, and each act of
support another opportunity to encourage the people of Sint Maarten to put their health first.
Sint Maarten is our home — Orco Cares is how we show it.
