ORANJESTAD, St. Eustatius– The Labour Department has officially launched the Revamp Made in Statia / Sheltered Workplace & Building Resilience for Food Security (SWBRFS) project, aimed at boosting inclusive employment and sustainable local food production.
The initiative will create job opportunities for people distanced from the labour market, including those with disabilities or limited experience, while promoting environmentally responsible farming to strengthen food security. It also focuses on skills training, practical work experience, and social reintegration in a structured, supportive environment.
Funded in its first phase by the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment (SZW), the project will be implemented with partners such as Green Oasis Side B.V., local farmers, NGOs, and Statia Government departments. Director Carol Jack-Roosberg said the programme is about “restoring dignity, empowering individuals, and building a stronger Statia.”
