Throughout May 2025, Youth Care Caribbean Netherlands (ZJCN) will honour foster
parents with a month-long series of special activities. It is the first time that foster
care is being highlighted for an entire month across the Caribbean Netherlands.
The goal is to emphasize the importance of foster care, express gratitude to foster
parents for their dedication, and raise awareness within the community. This
year’s theme is: “Every Child Deserves a Home: Love Knows No Boundaries.”
The kick-off event took place this morning, May 5th, bringing together youth care
professionals and partner organizations to mark the start of a month dedicated to
foster care. Various events will be held to highlight and celebrate the impact of
foster parenting, including:
Foster Care Café
Two Foster Care Cafés will be organized in May, offering foster parents an informal
and welcoming space to share experiences and talk about daily life as a foster
parent. The gatherings will focus on current topics, challenges, and opportunities
within the foster care system. These events provide a great opportunity to connect
with fellow foster parents and find support in a warm and safe environment.
Neighbourhood Bus Tour
On 10 May, ZJCN and youth care professionals will host a neighbourhood bus tour,
visiting various communities across the islands. During the tour, conversations with
local residents will help raise awareness about the importance of foster care and the
vital role foster parents play in society.
Foster Care Day – May 24
Foster Care Day, held on the 24th of May, will be dedicated to recognizing and
appreciating foster parents. ZJCN wants to honour foster parents for the invaluable
and irreplaceable role they play in the lives of children. A special event will bring
foster parents together to enjoy music, food and drinks, and a heartfelt gift as a
token of gratitude for their ongoing commitment and care. This day also serves as a
moment to highlight the significance of the love, support, and stability that foster
parents provide to children who are temporarily unable to live with their biological
families. ZJCN believes that every child has the right to a safe and loving home — and
foster care is essential to making that possible.
“Love makes no distinction. Foster parents prove every day that home is not a place,
but a feeling. With this month of appreciation, we want to show just how important
foster parents are. They don’t just provide shelter — they offer safety, stability, and
love. And that deserves recognition, “said Regiline Sambo, Head of Youth Care
Caribbean Netherlands.
