Crossing the Seas 2010 : A celebration of international poetry and writing

There are at least a dozen reason to attend the 4 th edition of ‘ Crossing the Seas" the International Literature Festival hosted by the Philipsburg Jubilee Library and the Philipsburg Cultural community Centre themed ‘A sense of belonging"

Main event will be a cultural evening taking place on Wednesday April 14 th at the Cultural Centre. During this evening international authors will join together with local poets to recite their poems and read from their work for the community at large. Just like in its previous editions the festival is a celebration of poetry, and writing which brings together writers, poets, and musicians from historically related countries. This years authors and poets are from countries as diverse as Malaysia, Somalia, Lebanon ,Holland, Jamaica, and St. Martin/St. Maarten The festival is organized in close cooperation with the Dutch Foundation Winternachten" Participating international authors in Crossing the Seas 2010 are Bernice Chauly from Malaysia, Yasmine Allas (Somalia), Iman Humaydan (Lebanon) and Bas Heijne from the Netherlands. All foreign authors will read in their mother tongue, while their texts are simultaneously projected in English. Peter Lake, Lucinda Audain, Lenworth Wilson and Marthilda Richards will be representing St Maarten on April 14 th. Changa Hickinson, Don Froston and Amin Bouabdelli will take care of the musical aspect. MC for the evening will be Clara Reyes. The cultural evening will be held on Wednesday April 14 th between 7.00 and 9.30 pm and entrance is free. Library and Cultural centre urge the general public to come out in great numbers to celebrate international poetry and writing !!

 

International Literature Festival Crossing the Seas on April 14 th.

Philipsburg Jubilee Library and Cultural community Centre invite the general public to attend the international literature festival "Crossing the Seas on Wednesday evening April 14 th.

Participating authors are : Bernice Chauly( Malaysia), Yasmine Allas (Somalia), Iman Humaydan (Lebanon) and Bas Heijne (Netherlands). St Maarten will be represented by Peter Lake, Lucinda Audain, Lenworth Wilson and Marthilda Richards.

Time 7.00 -9.30 pm

Place : Cultural Community Centre ( Backstreet)

Entrance : Free of charge
