Middle Region/Defiance-The Middle Region & Defiance Community Council is organizing an Annual Basketball Knock Out in memory of the late farmer, politician and family man from Middle Region the late Mr. Alexander Lionel Richardson better known as Alec "the Butcher" Richardson. Mr. Richardson was well known in St. Maarten and in particular in Middle Region where he has made tremendous contribution towards the growth and development of St. Maarten.
Mr. Priest, President of the Middle Region and Defiance Community Council said "It is only fitting for us as a council to show our appreciation for the contribution Mr. Richardson has made towards this island nation St. Maarten. He was honored some years ago with the basketball court in Middle Region being named after him. However, we want his legacy to live on forever.
On Sunday, April 11, 2010 the Middle Region & Defiance Community Council is hosting the first Alec "the Butcher" Richardson basketball Knock Out in memory of this great patriot. It will be held at the Basketball court in Middle Region next to the Sister Marie Laurent School.
We expect Middle Region & Defiance to come alive as four teams out of this district compete in the first Alec "the Butcher" Richardson Basketball Knockout.
The teams are divided in four, Lower Middle Region, Center Middle Region, and Upper Middle Region & Defiance Estate. Who will win this first knock out? Will it be Lower Middle Region or Defiance Estate; or none of the above? But somebody must win. The winner will receive the first prize trophy and bragging rights until next year.
The players must be between the ages of twelve up to eighteen years and each team must feature a female player and a twelve year old player. If you have not signed up as yet with the Community Council you still have time to do it. Sign up now and become part of this great sporting event of it’s’ kind in Middle Region & Defiance.
We are appealing to all the residents of the entire Middle Region & Defiance and the public at large to come out in big numbers on Sunday, April ll, 2010 to show our youngsters your love and affection for them. Mark this date on your calendar and don’t change it for nothing.
This is one of the ways that we can bring our community stronger together and deter our youth from getting into problems. "You can surely make a difference by supporting this great effort from your community council", says Mr. Priest.
