FAMILY LIFE FOUNDATION HOSTS REGIONAL CARIBBEAN MEETING ON REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH
The Family Life Foundation of St. Maarten will be hosting the Thirty Fifth Annual General Meeting of the Caribbean Family Planning Affiliation (CFPA) at the Great Bay Beach Resort from July 11th-14th , 2008. The CFPA is an umbrella organization of twenty one family planning associations from the Dutch, English and French speaking nations of the Caribbean â?? all of whom are dedicated to the enhancement of the reproductive health of Caribbean people.
The senior volunteers, youth delegates and Executive Directors from these twenty one countries will attend this meeting. The principal theme of the meeting is Stigma and Discrimination with particular reference to HIV/AIDS. Dr. Jacob Gayle, Deputy Vice-President of the HIV/AIDS Initiative of the Ford Foundation will be the main speaker on this subject.
Other dignitaries to Annual General Meeting include Dr. Robert Nasiiro, President of CFPA as well as Drs. Jacqueline Sharpe and Carmen Barroso who are the President and Regional Director respectively of this regionâ??s arm of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF). Dr. Sharpe is also President of the world body of IPPF which is the largest NGO in the world.
The Family Life Foundation and the CFPA are indebted to the Island Government of St. Maarten for its support and to Drs. Jorien Wuite, Director of Sector Health Affairs and Dr. Rachel Eersel, Head of the Preventative Department of St. Maarten, who will deliver the feature address at the Opening Ceremony of the Annual General Meeting.
