St. Martin Pony League battled in Panama, Umpire Jo Brown takes honor in umpiring final Caribbean Zone game, and Panama is new Bronco Div. Caribbean Zone Champions
St. Martin has reason to be proud. The reason for this is because of the fact that the Eastern Caribbean Umpire Mr. Joseph Brown a Pony Baseball registered and recognized umpire was assigned to chief the final game of the Caribbean Zone Bronco Division. Jo Brown was so good behind the plate that after the game he got congratulations from most fans at the game.
The St. Martin selection faced strong opponents, battled all the way but was faced with the lack of the funds to be able to travel with the correct amount of players. Not to mentioned the fact that two players who got stranded in Miami and the lost of all the game uniforms. St. Martin was also faced with the fact of overnighting in order to reduce their travel cost of US $ 17.000,– which was paid by the League. An amount of 9 countries attended the tournament and played a two pool Olympic style bracket. Panama emerged as champions of the Tournament after defeating Puerto Rico convincingly to eliminate the 2007 champs. The entire Tournament was dedicated to former Panamanien Major League outfielder Omar Moreno who is now in charge of promoting Pony baseball among the youth of Panama. Panama will now be heading to Monterey, California to take part in the 2008 Pony World Series as representatives of the Caribbean. St. Martin can still rejoice of the fact that a St. Martin umpire was chief umpire of the final game and he did a wonderful job as such.
