The Police Dept. has noticed recently, that their has been an noticeable increase in the amount of reports with regards to shoplifting and pick-pocketing in the shopping areas on the island.

November 26th, two men were arrested at Super Plaza on Backstreet for shoplifting after they had been caught in the act. This the last of numerous cases that are being investigated. These men two men from Guyana were brought to the Philipsburg police station and handed over to the Detective Dept. for further investigation. The Police Dept. wants inform the general public that they should pay very close attention to what is going on around them when shopping or when they are in crowded areas. These culprits operate mostly in groups. The entire business community should take all preventive measures such as, increasing their security personnel, installing a security system or checking their security system to make sure its functional. The X-mas season is here and this is one of the times of the year when these culprits come out to do what they do best.

 

Ongoing robbery investigations

The Special Robbery Unit has reported that they are making progress with regards to the ongoing armed robbery investigations. The recently arrested suspects have been cooperating and have admitted to have committed numerous other armed robberies. The investigation into the cases will continue.

The Special Robbery unit has also reported that a third suspect in the armed robberies at the Sint Dominic School and Ruby Labega School has been arrested. The suspect will remain custody for further investigation.
