WILLEMSTAD — The former Park Hotel on the Frederikstraat in the center of Otrobanda, was demolished during the past days to prevent drug addicts from (accidentally) setting fire to the building. The neighbors had also complained that the place harbored vermin.

It remains a question whether another building will be constructed on the location. The owner of Hotel Otrobanda, Frank Eustatia, had bought the Park Hotel approximately one year ago with the intention to expand Hotel Otrobanda from 41 to approx. one hundred rooms. However, due to the recent plans of the Board of Governors to have the casinos in ‘small’ hotels pay more tax compared to the larger hotels, Eustatia had decided to mark time with his expansion plans. "I am very disappointed in the Board of Governors. These plans are connected with the government’s wish to balance its budget. Perhaps a thing or two should be taken to court. We will therefore await these developments before deciding whether to continue with our building plans", Eustatia stated.
