November 5, 2009, 9 leaders and 2 trainers, have completed an intensive training program and passed the requirements to trainers received their official certificate "Active Parenting of Teens" from the Active Parenting Publishers in the USA.
"Active Parenting of Teens" was introduced to the various VSBO schools in 2006, but the revised program was re-introduced in March of this year during a two days "Train-the-LEADERS training". During this training the participants, whom are teachers, social workers and student guidance counselors of the various VSBO schools, were taught how to use the combination of video, discussion, and group activities to make their parent workshops entertaining and filled with practical skills, parents can start using immediately.
These "Active Parenting LEADERS" have been conducting parent workshops at the Milton Peters College, Sundial School and the Sint Maarten Academy for the last 6 months.
The ceremony consisted of an official handing over of the Active Parenting LEADER certificates by Commissioner, Mr. F. Richardson.
DERPI takes this opportunity to thank all involved for their enthusiasm and motivation. The continuation and the success of this program will depend on the involvement of the community of Sint Maarten
