GEBE contributes to Oranje School; Brooks says teachers are on a mission
GEBE recently made a donation to the Oranje School with respect to four teachers who recently retired.
Brooks a former pupil of the school, during the presentation, highlighted the important role that teachers play in the development of the youth.
GEBE adopted Oranje School several years ago and assists the school financially with the purchasing of books, equipment and other essential resources.
"Teaching is not a job you do for the money. It is something you do because of your love for children," Brooks told the students in attendance. He also stressed the importance of having goals in life which would allow one to achieve what they have set out to do.
"Teachers play a valuable role in the development of our society and are the driving force for development in our communities. A teacher is one of the most significant figures in a childâ??s life.
"I believe that a holistic approach to education is needed that would better prepare our youth to acquire the social skills that would lead to better values and attitudes for our island nation, thereby creating socially responsible citizens.
"There are many intrinsic rewards in the teaching profession. Teaching is not just a job, but a mission whereby students will attain their goals and achieve academic progress which in the end benefits society. Respect and positive attitude are two qualities that we must instill in our youth," GEBE Managing Director William Brooks stated on the importance of teachers in society.
Brooks is also appealing to other large businesses on the island to adopt a public school.
