NAGICO Cricket tournament begins today

All is set for the 7th Annual 2009 Nagico One Day Cricket Tournament which begins today in three islands: St. Kitts, St. Maarten and Anguilla. The eight competing teams are divided in two zones: Zone A comprises St. Kitts, Nevis, USVI and Montserrat. Zone B contains defending champions Antigua, Anguilla, St. Maarten and BVI.

Today, Anguilla will do battle with the defending champs at the Webster Park in Anguilla while St. Maarten will take on BVI at Caribe Lumber Ball Park. In St. Kitts, the host country will challenge Montserrat at the Molineux cricket field and USVI faces Nevis at the Cayon field. On Tuesday Nevis will play St. Kitts in Molineux and Montserrat challenges USVI in Cayon; in St. Maarten, the host country will face Anguilla while BVI takes on Antigua at the Webster Park in Anguilla. Then on Wednesday, St. Maarten gets a taste of the defending champs Antigua at the Caribe Lumber Ball Park while Anguilla challenges the BVI. In St, Kitts at the Molineux cricket field, Nevis plays St. Kitts and USVI plays Montserrat at the Cayon field.

As usual, the Caribe Lumber Ballpark will be the home of the semi-finals and finals. The two top teams from each zone will move on to this round of the competition which begins on October 16. The winner of Zone B will play the second place team in Zone A on October 16. The winner of Zone A will challenge the second place in Zone B on October 17. The championship match plays on Sunday, October 18 at the Caribe Lumber Ballpark.
