The action from the AP has started one day before the meeting of the Political Committee, which will take place September 30th. During this consultation, the Netherlands, the Land and the island territories will deliberate on the current political process and ascertain a date for the commencement of the statuses of the islands, which are currently still a part of the Antilles.
As of five PM, representatives of the Aliansa Patriótiko in cooperation with members of the institute Kòrsou Fuerte i Outónomo (KFO) will distribute stickers at traffic lights in Sta. Maria.
There is a wide resistance in the Antilles but also on Aruba against the Dutch plans. Antilleans and Arubans would be considered as second-class citizens within the Kingdom in view of the imposed limitations on free passenger traffic, according to opponents.
Furthermore, the draft was supposedly also discriminating and violates all human rights of the Antillean people, according to the opponents.
The Island Council of Curaçao, but also the States of the Antilles and Aruba have recently adopted a unanimous motion against the legislation. Therefore, the sticker action should be considered as an expression of support for the States and the Island Council, according to the AP. The association calls on all social organizations laboring against discrimination, to come to Sta. Maria.
