The well-informed source continues, "During the past week, various people at Valero had supposedly taken a few days off or gone on holidays in an attempt to have a lucky escape". It is also reported that the fraud running into millions was able to continue for so long due to the negligence of Valero’s management. "The controllers signed orders without paying attention to the details. Although somebody once told the controller that something was fishy, that somebody was simply ignored."

It was reported that contractor B. with the help of supervisor K. had worked out a construction where money from the refinery was used to order materials. These materials were then sold or used, and were passed on as material costs to projects outside the refinery, amongst others with Setar and Web. "The earning was often threefold per one ordered consignment and all at the expense of Valero.’
The two has supposedly amassed a fortune, even more than the 5 million florins previously mentioned by the Aruban press. For example, contractor K. had supposedly purchased a finca in Columbia. It was reported that he was also the first to reveal information during the interrogation, under the pretext of ‘if I’m going to prison, then a lot of people will join me’.
The Public Prosecutor (OM) confirms that Valero has filed a report against B. and K. for their participation in the embezzlement of monies, and that the investigation is concentrated on such. No further arrests were made.
