The Government Information Service (G.I.S.) is presently working on a series of documentaries about St. Maarten Villages, the first one within the series is the village of Simpson bay.
The documentary will highlight the history of Simpson bay and its people, focusing on cultural, historical, and economic aspects.
The documentary is currently in its development stage, persons are currently being interviewed and a review is also being conducted of the literature and documentation on the topic from the main reference sources.
One of the persons that G.I.S. interviewed was Dr. Jay Haviser, an archeologist based at the department of VROM, and President of the St. Maarten Archaeological Center (SIMARC), a non-profit organization geared towards engaging and encouraging local St. Maarten high-school students towards the scientific research of archaeology, the environment and heritage of the island.
Haviser explained about various interesting artifacts, locations, and landmarks in Simpson bay. He said that Simpson bay, a village of contrast, is a vastly interesting place, filled with history.
