GEBE contributes to St. Maarten Boys’ Brigade Summer Program
GEBE recently made a donation to the St. Maarten/St. Martin Boys’ Brigade which will be hosting The Eastern/Southern Caribbean Boys’ Brigade Regional Fellowship Meeting from July 16th – July 18th 2008 and The Eastern/Southern Boys’ Brigade Regional Fellowship Boys’ Camp from July 19th to July 27th 2008 during the summer months.
These events are held every two years and are hosted each time by different countries in the Caribbean.
The venues for these events will be The Rupert I Maynard Youth Community Center in St. Peters and The Browlia F. Millard Campus of the Methodist Agogic Center in St. Johns.
The Boys’ Brigade was founded on October 4th 1883
in Glasgow Scotland by Sir William Alexander Smith. It was started from a Sunday school class of unruly boys, using the method from the army (drill) to discipline the youngsters. It is the first uniform organization for boys in the world.
The Boys’ Brigade is an international, interdenominational Christian Organization for boys between the ages of 5 รข?? 18 and can be found in over 100 countries throughout the world. Educational, Social, Spiritual and Physical are the four areas covered in the organization’s programme.
The objective of the brigade is the advancement of Christ’s Kingdom among boys and the promotion of Habits, Obedience, Reverence, Discipline, Self-Respect and all that tends towards a true Christian Manliness.
GEBE Managing Director William Brooks says he is very proud that GEBE as a community oriented company could contribute to one of the island’s longest serving community organizations.
"The Boys’ Brigade has existed on St. Maarten for 45 years just as long as GEBE itself, and during that timeframe, more than 600 persons have passed through the workings of the organization whose activities are all carried out by volunteers.
"We can see the difficulties and challenges that our young people are confronting, and these become prevalent in anti-social behavior at school on school busses or and within our neighborhoods.
"The Boys’ Brigade serves a purpose in our society and I would like to commend them for their works and to keep up the good work. Our donation to the organization’s summer activities will without a doubt make a positive contribution and impact. It is our social responsibility as a company to continue to play a role in our community as we have done in the past," William Brooks stated.
