NAGICO Presents Checks to Winners of Senior Calypso Competition

 

The winners of the Senior Calypso Competition visited the NAGICO head office on Thursday 7th May 2009 to receive their prize money for their achievements in this years calypso competition.

Leroy "King Beau Beau" Brooks who was able to retain his crown as the St. Maarten Calypso King, received a check for $10,000 from NAGICO Managing Director Vincent Haakmat. Brooks stated, "I very glad that NAGICO was onboard in helping to bring back the art form of calypso to the forefront. The amount of prize money is the highest it has ever been, and it is a great incentive. On behalf of my fellow calpysonians and myself, I would like to say thank you for everything NAGICO has done."

First runner up, Isidore "Might Dow" York and second runner-up Timothy "King Timo" van Heyningen received $5000 and $3000 respectively. Rounding out the winners were Andrew "Baker Jr." Richardson who placed 4th receiving $2000 and Ricky "Ricky Phox" Bertie who placed 5th and won $1000.

NAGICO Insurances made an initial contribution of $ 11,000 during the preliminaries of the Senior Calypso competition, which was used to assist in covering the extensive cost of the elimination round and the finals.
