In observance of International Spay/Neuter Month, the St. Maarten Animal Welfare Foundation has launched its annual SpringSpay campaign.
"Spaying is the simplest and most humane method of reducing the homeless and unwanted animal population," says Su Wathey, Foundation President. "Aside from the issue of their own suffering, homeless animals perpetuate diseases, plus spread mange, ticks, and fleas throughout the pet community, as well as strew garbage in their search for food. They are a nuisance to residents and make the island unattractive for tourists."
The fifty certificates for a $25 spay or neuter, offered to Dutchside residents only, can be obtained at participating vet clinics. Pet owners must make their own appointments and transport their pets themselves. Certificates are limited to one per family.
