On Saturday afternoon emergency personnel was called to the Fort Bay harbor where a man that was out snorkeling with one of the islands dive shops became ill and had to be brought ashore immediately. Other divers that were on the boat assisted by trying to revive the man. Ambulance staff and nurses from the A.M. Edward’s Medical Center was also on hand trying to revive the man until Dr. G. Koot arrived on the scene. After arriving on the scene and examining the man with the initials S.W. born in Germany on July 25th 1969, Dr. Koot pronounced the man dead.
Police Officers arrived on the scene and after arrival of the Act. Public Prosecutor it was decided to confiscate the body for further investigations. The victim was on the island together with his fiancee P.I. of Germany and was staying at a local hotel on the island. A heartache is not being ruled out by the authorities, but the autopsy if any would have to determine exactly the cause of death.
Acting Public Prosecutor Mr. Franklin Wilson said that he will be awaiting further instructions before anything can be done with the body of the man. I am in contact with my superior on St. Maarten and with the Dr. and based on their instructions we will know what to do further with the body.
Police is carrying out a full investigation by questioning several witnesses that were also on the boat.
