"The health of the St. Maarten Community is a matter of great concern to me"
The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams will be re-launching her popular U2 Can Move Fitness Campaign on Thursday, the 7th of February with the Soualiga K6 and K3 Challenge walk. During an address geared particularly tat Civil Servants, the PM reiterated the Importance of a healthy lifestyle; "I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your families a Happy, Healthy and Productive Year. As we now enter into the second month of 2013, it is a fact that most persons usually make New Years resolutions to live a healthier lifestyle. A recent article on MSN news indicated that most resolutions that are made pertain to achieving a healthier lifestyle and losing weight during the course of the year. I believe that many of us have made that same resolution," commented the PM.
"The health of the St. Maarten Community, and that of the civil servants in particular, is a matter of great concern to me. During the course of 2012 I have organized several events related to physical fitness and exercise and I would like to continue with these events in 2013 as well. I urge each civil servant to be physically active during the New Year and beyond; especially considering that most civil servants have sedentary function movement is key along with diet and exercise. What matters is that every attempt to exercise or to live a healthy life style by making the correct nutrition, care and movement choices, counts or rather adds up," continued Prime Minister Wescot-Williams.
The PM emphasized that every individual’s competitor should be him or herself. "You need to be able to evaluate yourself based on what you were able to do before starting an exercise program and what you are now able to do. You never compare yourself with others. Max Ehrmann in his poem the Desiderata says that if you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, or always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
So plan this year plan to walk X more miles than you did last year, add one more green vegetable than you ate last year, practice ZUMBA or any other exercise a little bit more intensely than you did last year, get more rest than you did last year and be less stressed than you were last year and become more healthy than you were last year! Let’s do it together!" Concluded the PM.
The Soualiga K6 and K3 Challenge will start under the banner of Leading Civil Servants in Health and Fitness 2013 at the Government Administration Building at 4:30 sharp on Thursday the 7th of February. The Prime Minister encourages all participants to wear their U2CANMOVE T-shirts and to keep well hydrated during the walk.
