The Philipsburg Jubilee (PJL), a non-profit organization committed to providing information to our community for the last 89 years, is currently seeking financial support from key businesses throughout our community for its Shelving, Furniture and Signage Improvement Project 2013. This venture will allow the library to better serve the community of St. Maarten.
"The furniture, shelving, and signage we are currently using has been there for the past 30 years and are in dire need of replacement" remarked PJL Director, Monique Alberts, "This project will give the inside of the library a complete new appearance.
Alberts explained that the planned improvements would: provide additional seating for individual and group work, create a bookstore-like layout and make books more visible and accessible, provide clearer directions to where the various sections are located, thereby making the selection of books quicker and easier, and improve the overall aesthetic of the library and make it a more attractive place to visit and use.
"We are extremely grateful for the donation we have received thus far from the Cooperating Foundation of the Dutch Caribbean which will cover the initial costs of our project. However, an outstanding amount of some NAF 92,298 still remains," Alberts said.
In order to raise the necessary funds to supplement the donation already received the library has decided to call upon community businesses who, like PJL, have education and civil responsibility in their goals. Alberts explained at any assistance from the business community would be welcomed and highlighted.
"The support of the business community for this project will be invaluable to the sustainability of PJL’s vision. For the past 89 years we have served the St. Maarten community and it is our aim to continue to be the gateway for information and learning in our society", Alberts stated.
