Minister Jacobs present for Opening Round of Seven Seas Rotary Spelling Bee

Minister of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports Hon. Silveria Jacobs, was in attendance to witness the opening of round one of the Seven Seas Rotary Spelling Bee which will be held over three Saturdays at the AUC Medical School in Cupecoy.

 

30 students representing various public, parochial and private schools around the island took the challenge to take part in the first part of the second annual event organized by the Rotary Mid-Isle and Sunrise, Rotaract and Interact members.

Minister Jacobs commended the Rotarians for their continuous support of schools and education as civic service groups as well as for their ability to secure the support of the business community in these ventures. She further pledged her support for their efforts and encouraged more cooperation with the schools in the preparation of such events.

The Minister further recognized the students as winners just by their mere presence and encouraged them to do their very best.

"It takes a great amount of courage for you to be here today, and regardless of the outcome, keep on trying your very best in everything you do. The more you participate in these types of events, the more confidence you will gain! Much success to you all," Minister Jacobs told the students at the event.

She also encouraged school representatives and family members to continue to go the extra mile for their children, and to model good sportsmanship in this and all competitions.

The Minister looks forward to the semi-finals and finals in the weeks to come.
