On Thursday September 20th at approximately 11.15 a.m. a police bike patrol was informed by a bus driver that shortly before a male tourist was robbed of his gold chain by an unknown man walking on Back street in the direction of Keep on Rolling Restaurant.
The witness also gave the patrol a description of the suspect. Immediately the patrol started a search for the possible suspect. While on Back street the patrol saw a man with a backpack who fit the description of the suspect and when the patrol wanted to approach the suspect he took off running the alleys in the area. The bike patrol informed the central dispatch of what was going on and requested back-up. The chase of the suspect took the investigating officer to the Pond fill Supermarket. A witness to this incident informed the police that the suspect was hiding in the supermarket. During the search of the supermarket the suspect with initials E.G. from Haiti was arrested and taken to the Philipsburg police station for further investigation. During a search of the clothing of the suspect a gold chain and two pendants were found in one of his pockets. The suspect could not give an acceptable explanation about the chain. Shortly after an American male tourist came to the police station and stated that he had been robbed of his gold chain. The victim identified the confiscated as his property. An official complaint was filed with the Detective Department and the suspect now remains in custody for further investigation. The chain was returned to the victim.
