Minister of Tourism & Economic Affairs, Transportation and Telecommunications (TEATT) Hon. Romeo Pantophlet, last week Friday met with representatives from the Association of Haitian Physicians Abroad (AMHE), who are strongly considering the destination as a location to hosts its 40th Annual Convention.
AMHE will celebrate its 40th Annual Convention in July 2013. AMHE is a 40-year old membership not-for-profit organization of over 5000 physicians of Haitian ancestry.
They are represented in clinical practice and academia throughout the United States and Canada.
Acting Head of the Tourist Bureau Augusto Priest said the destination is particularly interested in possibly supporting this event, and that it would bring much needed business to the island during the off season.
The primary focus of the organization is to assist in meeting the health care needs of the community-at-large and to provide professional development opportunities for the Haitian Physician.
The Annual Convention of the AMHE consists of approximately 300-400 Physicians and their families traveling from the United States and Canada.
The convention is a seven day conference that includes scientific sessions as well as a host of social activities and island excursions and would take place in the last week of July.
Previous convention locations have included Aruba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Montreal and Panama.
