Discussions take place on bilateral cooperation between Netherlands and St. Maarten

In preparation for the signing of a bilateral cooperation agreement between St. Maarten and the Netherlands, a meeting was held between technocrats of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports (MinECYS) of St. Maarten and their counterparts at the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science of the Netherlands on Wednesday afternoon in The Hague.

Representing the Ministry of ECYS were Antonio Aventurin, Cornelius James and Perry Geerlings.

Discussions were held on the following topics: cooperation protocol; promotion of studying in the region; allocation of the WSF funds; ministerial places for ‘numerus fixus’ studies; pending changes in Dutch Tertiary education; NVAO Accreditation for higher and tertiary education institutes on St. Maarten; and facilitation of cooperation on curriculum and program development with Dutch accredited institutions on the SBO/MBO level on St. Maarten
The discussions were very fruitful and follow-up meetings will be held in the coming months to finalize the cooperation agreement before the end of 2012.

Minister ECYS Hon. Silveria Jacobs is currently in the Netherlands on a working visit.
