The Caribbean Association of National Telecommunication Organizations (CANTO) has launched its 2012 essay writing competition and is inviting teenagers on St. Maarten to submit entries and win some super prizes.
Last year’s Runner-up and Third place prizes were awarded to St. Maarten students Christopher A. Nelson of St. Dominic School and Dhanishka Pohuga of Learning Unlimited Preparatory School – both received prizes jointly donated by TelEm GroupAs with previous years the essay competition is in celebration of "World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD)" on Tuesday, May 17, 2011. To mark the day, CANTO will be hosting its 6th Annual World Telecommunication Information Society Day – Essay Competition.
The deadline for submission for essays is May 2nd 2012.
Talented winners can take home cash prizes as well as netbook computers, smartphones and an all-expenses paid trip for two to this year’s CANTO conference in Miami, USA, for the top prize winner.
All students aged between 15 and 18 years of age, and who are resident in CANTO’s regional member countries are eligible to take part. This includes St. Maarten, which has been a CANTO member for many years.
CANTO says this year’s contest will be based on the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) theme of: "Women and girls in ICT".
CANTO competition organizers are circulating flyers with rules and other information about the contest throughout the region.
Advertisements will also appear in regional newspapers giving a further boost to the contest.
