On Tuesday March 6th at approximately 10.00 a.m. an "Emergency response training" was held at the A.C. Wathey Cruise Facilities.
This training was done by the Sint Maarten Port Authorities in collaboration with emergency services on the island and the representatives of the Norwegian Cruise Line.
This training was to evaluate the response time and the coordination between the different departments in case of an emergency.
Traffic going towards the Point Blanche area was diverted for a short period allowing the emergency services to get to the cruise facilities.
At the pier a mock evacuation of over 1400 crew members took place by representatives of the cruise ship.
This short safety training was a success and showed that in case of emergency all emergency services are capable of responding in time and through proper coordination getting the job done with as less casualties as possible.
