Wednesday morning at approximately 11.30 a traffic accident took place on the Unionroad close to border between the French side and Dutch side of the island. This accident was between two private cars with license plate 991ZAV 971 and 930ZAX971 and a scooter without any license plate. The driver of the 930ZAX971 was heading towards and the scooter on which two young men were riding followed. The cause of the accident is that the driver of the 930ZAX971 at a certain moment shifted form a large hole in the street to avoid damge to his car. The rider of the scooter also shifted from this hole. At that same time the car with licenseplate 991ZAV971 was driving in the opposite direction. The scoorter collided headon with the oncomming traffic. As a result hereof both passengers of the scooter were thrown from the scooter. Both passengers complained of pain in their legs and had both possibly sufferd fractures. They were taken by ambulance to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for treatment. An eyewitness stated that these young men possibly were in the possesion of a gun and had thrown it into the bushes after the accident. A intense search was carried out to locate this weapon, but nothing was found. Both young men who have medical insurance on the French side were taken by ambulance to the French side. The traffic dept. will be finalizing this case soon. This traffic accident caused a major traffic congestion, however after about an hour traffic was back to normal.
