The Lionel Bernard Scott memorial lecture honours the memory of L.B. Scott or Brother Bo, a St. Maarten builder, businessman, politician and statesman, who dedicated his life towards the improvement of himself, his family, his people and his island.
In recognition of his many merits in the social and political fields he was distinguished in the order of Oranje-Nassau. St. Maarten paid homage to her great son of the soil by naming a main street in the Cul-de –sac after him. The postal services of the Netherlands Antilles commemorated the birth day of L.B. Scott by the issuance of a special postage stamp in January 1974, eight years after his passing.
Lionel Bernard Scott revelled in ideas and in bringing them to fruition. Lionel Bernard Scott played an important role in the development of the Windward Islands in general and St. Maarten in particular. His contribution as a builder, businessman and politician were profound and his leadership in his community was of the highest calibre. He was a staunch proponent of self-reliance of the people of St. Maarten in the social, economic and political fields
It is against this background that the Lionel Bernard Scott Memorial lecture Series was started in honour and memory of L.B. Scott on his birth date January 28th , 2003.
Past lectures were: the Honourable Governor Eugene Holiday, Lawyer Richard Gibson Sr, ex- lieutenant governor Dennis Richardson, the late Vance James Junior, Educator Mr. Camille Baly, Banker Mr. Jan Beujon, Dr Petet/Dr Bryson and Dr. Holiday, and Drs. Jurien Wuite.
The tenth annual Lionel Bernard Scott memorial Lecture will take place on Saturday, January 28, 2012, at 20:00 hours at the PMIA Hall on Back Street.
Our presenter for this year’s tenth anniversary is no other that one our distinguish Educator and established Legal Advisor "Mrs. Mavis Brooks-Solomon". The topic of the lecture is: "The role of the Advisory Council as it relates to the attainment of the greater Self Reliance for St.Maarten Past, Present and Future developments".
The aim of the annual lecture series is to enhance and promote awareness and discussion on current social-economic and political issues of interest to the development of our community.
The evening promises to be an interesting and educational evening. The PMIA Board and members therefore invites the entire Public, Members, Family and Friends to come out and join us as we celebrate this Tenth Anniversary of the LB Scott Memorial Lecture. The evening will be concluded in a small reception
