Commissioner Buncamper supports initiatives to create awareness about Breast Cancer

Commissioner of Public Health Maria Buncamper-Molanus, supports various initiatives that have been drafted to create awareness about breast cancer during the month of October.

In many countries throughout the world, October is recognized as Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

In St. Maarten a number of persons have been personally affected by breast cancer and many more have supported friends and family members in their fight against this disease.

Prevention is the best policy in the control of cancer.

"I encourage all St. Maarteners to increase their awareness of what can be done to combat this disease. Individual actions, such as choosing a healthy lifestyle that includes eating more vegetables and fruits, avoiding foods in saturated fats, exercising regularly, and not smoking, are positive ways to reducing the risk of developing breast cancer.

"In addition to the preventative approach, it is important for women to seek early detection by having a mammogram done. Visit your physician and discuss it with him or her. Together, we can defeat breast cancer," Commissioner of Public Health Maria Buncamper-Molanus told the Government Information Service (GIS).
