Commissioner Laveist congratulates teachers on World Teachers Day

Commissioner responsible for Labour & Youth Affairs Louie Laveist, congratulates the nationâ??s cadre of teachers on the occasion of World Teachers Day, Sunday, October 5.

Laveist added that teachers are essential to a nationâ??s socio-economic development, since they are in the driverâ??s seat of preparing our nationâ??s youth for the role they will play in society.

"The teachers are the ones who provide the building blocks that allow our nationâ??s young people to climb the ladder of success and making a positive contribution to our national development.

"The job of teaching for many has become more difficult in the sense of the social issues and challenges confronting young people in the 21st century. Some spend more time being social workers and disciplining the youth than teaching in the classroom.

"As a nation we have to salute the teaching cadre for their dedication and hard work on an annual basis. Our teachers deserve our communities and parents constant support.

"On this World Teachers Day, let us as a nation, and as parents, recommit ourselves to the teachers of this great island to support their efforts and the role they play not only in imparting knowledge to our children, but also molding them and instilling in them the values that form their lives as good citizens of our community," Commissioner of Labour & Youth Louie Laveist told the Government Information Service (GIS).
