Tuesday, September 23, Commissioner of Sports Maria Buncamper-Molanus accepted a trophy from the Sint Maarten Body Building & Fitness Association.
The Island Government of St. Maarten provided assistance to three members of the association to participate in the Netherlands Antilles Body Building Championship in Bonaire, held last week.
Two members of the participating delegation were able to place in the competition, namely Marci Cooke, who placed second in the Heavy Weight and Master Women division, and Leon Bussue, who placed third in the MenĂ¢??s Light Weight division.
In a short ceremony, Martin Wilson, President of the SMBBFA, thanked Commissioner Buncamper-Molanus and presented her with the trophy.
"A special thanks and appreciation to you for contribut[ing] significantly to the [advancement] of [the] St. Maarten Body Building & Fitness Association in making our trip a great success."
"We of the SMBBFA Board are thankful to you for supporting our efforts [in the] Antillean Championship 2008."
"We strongly hope we can count on you for our future endeavors," Wilson said.
Commissioner Buncamper-Molanus was pleased to accept the trophy on behalf of the Island Government of St. Maarten. "I want to thank you for your presentation, and I congratulate you on placing well in the competition. Keep working hard, and bringing home the trophy. Make us proud."
After taking a group photo in the office, Wilson invited the commissioner to the SMBBFA first annual domino tournament, scheduled for October 3rd, 4th, and 5th. But due to previous engagements, the commissioner will be off island. Nevertheless, someone from my office will be present, Commissioner said.
In addition, Commissioner Buncamper-Molanus commended the association for their initiative to be independent through their efforts in raising funds. Government is, nevertheless, available to assist them in their endeavors.
