Governor reiterates to maintain a state of readiness as NOAA forecasters announce more tropical storm systems to come
The U.S. National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) lead hurricane season forecaster Gerry Bell, says the Caribbean and U.S. Gulf Coast and Atlantic East Coast should not let down their guard as conditions are still favorable for hurricane development.
"Residents are advised to continue to pay attention and monitor weather reports during the next few weeks. I do concur with the comments of the NOAA lead hurricane forecaster Gerry Bell that we are not out of the woods yet where the formation of tropical storm systems is concerned.
"We must be mindful of the fact that we are only half way through the 2008 hurricane season. We must therefore remain alert and prepared," Chairman of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) Governor Franklyn Richards told the Government Information Service (GIS) on Sunday.
Tropical storm systems that have already formed for the season are Arthur, Bertha, Cristobal, Dolly, Edouard, Fay, Gustav, Hanna, Ike and Josephine.
The hurricane season runs through November 30.
