Commissioner Laveist commends PEACE IS and Academy School PSVE for taking initiative to tackle youth violence
Commissioner responsible for Youth Affairs Louie Laveist, commends PEACE IS Foundation and the St. Maarten Academy PSVE School for the initiative taken to organize a workshop series targeting male high school students in an effort to stem violence among students in schools.
To be launched under the theme, "Dare to be King," the workshops will be directed by Professor of Counseling at John Hopkins University Dr. Alan Green and David Miller.
For the Love of Kids Foundation will also be conducting sessions featuring Dr. Joseph Jennings, a former gang member, now motivational speaker for youth matters.
Both organizations will hold a session for parents and the public at the Belair Community Center at 7.00pm on September 24.
Dare to be King is set-up to challenge young males around the world to become more than what they are; to become successful and dedicated with a purpose.
"The incidence of youth violence is very disturbing and has this administrationâ??s full attention. I commend the initiatives taken by PEACE IS, St. Maarten Academy PSVE and For the Love of Kids Foundation to organize these workshops which not only includes young males but parents as well.
"Parents definitely have to be involved and I urge them to attend the parent/public sessioin scheduled for September 24," Commissioner of Youth Affairs Louie Laveist told the Government Information Service (GIS).
PEACE IS stands for Partnership to Encourage Acceptance Caring and Empowerment In Schools.
