SMNCP’s St. Martin Day parade registration opens for Unity Flag

Troupe and traditional culture-wear groups

“We have some good news! The registration link is open for joining the St. Martin Day cultural parade in November 2024,” said Shanice Felix-Theodule.
To register to participate in the parade, click the following link or scan the QR code (in
image), at: https://rb.gy/bf5nyb, said Shanice, coordinator of the Unity Flag Troupe, which
features the St. Martin Unity Flag prominently.
The increasingly popular parade, made up of elegant culture-wear groups and individuals
surrounding St. Martin Day, is organized by the foundation SMaatn National Cultural Parade
(SMNCP).
“I’m calling for all persons from every part of our island who would like to join
especially the Unity Flag Troupe to register online by the September 2 deadline. When
registering, state ‘UNITY FLAG GROUP,’ when asked which group you are participating in,”
said Shanice.
“Once registered, please send me a message for us to start sharing the parade theme of
the Unity Flag group, clothing design details, and other exciting ideas to beautifully highlight St.
Martin’s cultural and historical unity for St. Martin Day 2024,” said Shanice.
The St. Martin Unity Flag has been a staple of the cultural parade well before 2022, when
the banner was “recognized … by the governments in Marigot and Philipsburg as the ‘cultural
symbol … affirming the unity and identity’ of the people of the entire island of St. Martin,”
reiterated Shanice.
“I’m looking forward to seeing you on the road with me,” said Shanice, who was a Unity
Flag group member in the SMaatn National Cultural Parade 2023. The colorful Unity Flag
troupe was organized last year by legal advisor and cultural activist Aishira “Shishi” Cicilia.
“Contact me also on my Shanice Felix Instagram, Messenger, or Facebook page or on
WhatsApp (721) 587–8017,” said Shanice.
The SMNCP has posted its guidelines on the registration form for all participating groups
and individuals interested in registering to take part in the SMaatn National Cultural Parade
2024.
One of the guidelines stipulates that “Only SMaatn Traditional clothing is allowed,” said
Urmain “Youmay” Dormoy, one of the principals of the foundation. The registration site contact
committee for SMNCP consists of Dormoy, Karen Cadogan, and Roland Rommy.
The SMNCP registration fee for children and adults is included on the registration form
at the digital site hosted by the foundation: https://rb.gy/bf5nyb.
