On the scene the driver of the car with license plate 4559 AAB whose condition seemed to be extremely serious was removed from the vehicle, treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment. The Fire Department that were also on the scene immediately went into action by using the metal cutting machine (The "Jaws of Life") to remove part of the mangled wreck to remove the passenger. After being removed from the wreck the passenger was also treated on the scene by paramedics and then transported to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for medical treatment. The investigation done by the Police Traffic Department and statements from witnesses indicate thus far that driving at high speed and losing control of the vehicle was the cause of this accident. The victims with initials D.R.P. and S.Q.V. are both French nationals visiting the island. Later in the early morning hours the traffic Department learnt from the medical center that the driver of the car died as a result of the injuries he sustained. The passenger was also flown to Martinique for further medical treatment because of his serious condition.
