Smitcoms engineers and technicians will be carrying out important maintenance work on the SMPR-1 fiber optic undersea cable from Midnight Thursday, as a result, some interruptions are expected in international voice and data services island-wide.
The work will commence promptly at midnight and is scheduled for completion at 5:00 am Friday morning.
The work involves the replacement of key circuit cards that are critical in maintaining optimal performance of the SMPR-1 cable and associated equipment.
Chief Technical Officer (CTO), Mr. Eldert Louisa, says while a broad window has been scheduled for the maintenance operation, if all goes as planned, international voice and data services will only be temporarily affected.
Mr. Louisa said the work has been scheduled during the early hours in order to have the least impact on residual and business customers.
Residential and business customers are therefore advised of a possible interruption of international voice and data services so that they can make alternative communication arrangements if necessary.
Smitcoms has meantime apologized to international voice and data customers for any inconvenience caused by the scheduling of this maintenance window.
