Discuss Common Goals Between St. Maarten and Puerto Rico
The Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Hon. Sarah Wescot-Williams was amongst the specially invited guests and dignitaries at the inauguration ceremony for the recently elected Governor of the Common Wealth of Puerto Rico His Excellency Alejandro Garcia Padilla. The Inauguration Ceremony took place on the second of January at La Fortaleza Palace in San Juan.
Alejandro Javier García Padilla was elected Governor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico on the 6th of November 2012. García Padilla was a member of the 24th Senate of Puerto Rico and President of the Popular Democratic Party of Puerto Rico (PPD). He also served as Secretary of Consumer Affairs from 2005 to 2009 under the governorship of Aníbal Acevedo Vilá.
The Prime Minister and the Governor held a brief meeting following his inauguration where they discussed renewing the ties between the two neighboring islands. The Prime Minister commented the she looked forward to having a close working relationship with the Governor and his Administration with regards to the various common goals between both St. Maarten and Puerto Rico.
