October 2012 is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and the Princess Juliana International Airport (PJIAE) has joined the awareness campaign of activities and initiatives in support of this cause.
On October 1, Marketing Manager Kalifa Hickinson presented a cheque from PJIAE for an undisclosed amount toward the organization of a packed calendar of activities and events organized by the Elektralyets Foundation and the Positive Foundation. The cheque was received by radio personality Mercedes "Elektra" Wyatt, a principal of the annual Breast Cancer Awareness Month campaign, and founder of the Elektralyets Foundation.
Employees at the airport will don breast cancer awareness T-shirts each Friday throughout October to show their support for breast cancer awareness.
There will also be PJIAE employees present at the "Pink Parade" on Friday, October 5. The popular parade is scheduled to start at the Festival Village at 4:30 pm and will conclude on The Boardwalk with live music. The month of awareness-raising has been observed since the late 1990s, according to the Positive Foundation.
The airport has scheduled Breast Cancer Awareness Info-Sessions with the Positive Foundation for its employees throughout October, and employees will be participating in other planned activities such as the Pink Phit Phabulous Walk-n-Splash event, which, according to the Elektralyets and Positive foundations, will include "Zumba, water aerobics, swimming, blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, fun games and breakfast for sale."
Last but not least on the PJIA awareness-raising calendar of activities about breast cancer, one lucky employee will win a T-shirt to attend the popular movie-night hosted by the Elektralyets Foundation later in October.
