Minister of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports Hon. Silveria Jacobs conveys her congratulations to the Ujima Foundation on the start of the Charlotte Brookson Academy.
The Charlotte Brookson Academy will be focusing on Curriculum-Based Professional Instruction in Theatre, Arts, Dance, Music, Visual Arts, Health and Physical Education.
The Charlotte Brookson Academy will offer an all-day program from 7.30 am – 4.55 pm with mandatory homework, tutoring and performance arts lessons for all students. The school will also provide breakfast, lunch and snacks for all students.
The ultimate goal of the Charlotte Brookson Academy for the Performance Arts will be to inspire, motivate and enrich the lives of students while preparing them to reach their highest potential as scholars, artists, leaders, and to become overall well-rounded global citizens.
This goal is firmly supported by the Minister of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports. If this experimental education approach is deemed successful, this concept will be duplicated in all schools on St. Maarten.
The opening of the Charlotte Brookson Academy is collaborative effort of the Ujima Foundation, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Youth Affairs and Sports and the University of St. Martin.
Though there were many challenges and hurdles to overcome to reach this far, the start of this prestigious endeavor means that now all that preparatory work needs to put in practice, Minister Jacobs said.
Minister Jacobs extends words of encouragement and empowerment to all students, Management and staff of the Charlotte Brookson Academy and adds, "It is our hope that the Charlotte Brookson Academy for the Performance Arts will contribute to the betterment of the society in which we live."
