Says Civil Servants are most Important Factor in the Legal Process

On Friday morning the Prime Minister of St. Maarten the Honorable Sarah Wescot-Williams opened the Law Making Workshop for Government Employees at the A.C Wathey Legislative Hall.

The workshop was held in order to bring employees who might be involved in the law making process up to speed on the procedures which are necessary since the constitutional changes in 2012. During her remarks the Prime Minister stated the intention at the workshop was to have a representative from each Government Department attend and be brought up to speed on the law-making process. "Most of you who are here at this workshop are here because your function within the departments often exposes you to legislation and the legislative process. Naturally things have changed related to that legislative process and I daresay things have changed drastically since 10-10-10, nevertheless cooperation between a central department like Legal Affairs and institutions like the Ombudsman and the Council of Advice the coordination between these instances is very important especially when the directives come from the Ministries", commented the Minister.

The Prime Minister continued by stating that she looked forward to the feedback and discussions which were to be held as part of the process of bringing Government to a higher level. "As a government we must strive to to the best process of legislation which can be made. To make this possible the input and involvement of all are in the civil service is necessary. I wish you a very fruitful discussion and participation and please realize that the most important factor in this process is you the people.
