Minister of Public Health Social Development & Labor, Cornelius De Weever has sent a letter to the St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation (SCDF) informing them to please observe Labor Day 2013 by not keeping any activities during the daytime on May 1.
SCDF has already published their 2013 carnival dates, which are April 19 until May 3, 2013. This year the second day parade was held on Labor Day, May 1, along with planned Labor Day activities. Minister de Weever stated that we must give our laborers the respect they deserve and honorably acknowledge Labor Day, May 1, 2013 and beyond.
