According to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) the theme of this year’s WTISD, "Women and Girls in ICT", aims to ensure that the vulnerable female half of the world’s population are exposed to the multitude of opportunities that are available in the ICT sector. CANTO will play its part in assisting the ITU in bringing global attention to this theme through its 6th Annual WTISD Essay Competition.
CANTO based in Trinidad & Tobago will stage its 6th annual World Telecommunication and Information Society Day- Essay Competition under the theme: "Women and girls in ICT". High school students from the ages of 15 to 18 are invited to write a 600 word essay exploring the current and future roles of women and girls in the ICT sector in their respective country and by extension the global community.
The competition will be staged throughout the Caribbean region among active member countries of CANTO. Entries received on or before May 3rd 2012, will be forwarded to a panel of experts in the field of telecommunications and education, to be judged on creativity, organization, mechanics and educational & technical merit. The top four (4) essays will be selected and awarded the following prizes:

As an added bonus, CANTO will host a Women and Girls Breakfast Meeting in Miami featuring powerful women speakers. This year, CANTO partners with Soroptimist International – (Port of Spain, Trinidad &Tobago).
