International oriented lawyer Michiel van den Brink was sworn in by the Joint Court of Justice of Aruba, Curacao, St. Maarten and Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba in St. Maarten on Friday 2nd of March. Michiel is one of five lawyers working at recently landed law firm VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne.
Michiel studied Dutch and International Law at the University of Leiden in The Netherlands and the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa, and graduated in 2006. During his studies, he worked as a legal clerk for a Cape Town law firm and was involved with a free legal aid organization.
In 2007 he started his career at a medium-sized law firm in Amsterdam, where he assisted local companies and multinationals with regard to general contract law and company law. He is an experienced litigator. Furthermore, he was frequently appointed as receiver in bankruptcy by the Amsterdam District Court.
Since September 2011, Michiel joined VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne and assists companies and individuals with regard to general commercial matters, including litigation. Since 2012, Michiel has also been appointed as receiver in bankruptcy by the Sint Maarten Court of First Instance.
VanEps Kunneman VanDoorne officially opened its offices in St. Maarten in November 2011 with five lawyers. With offices in Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao, St. Maarten and a Dutch Caribbean Desk in Amsterdam, the law firm is present on all islands of the Dutch Caribbean. With approximately 35 specialized lawyers, the firm provides transactional and litigious legal services to businesses, governments, NGOs and individuals .
