The Chinese New Year this year represents the Dragon and begins on Monday, with 15 days of celebrations to follow.
Chinese New Year is an annual "spring" festival that is welcomed by Chinese all over the world. It is celebrated by the young and old.
The dragon is the symbol of power and good fortune.
"I would like to wish the Chinese community in Sint Maarten, China and around the world a very happy Chinese New Year. May this feast bring about happiness and joy for you and your families.
"I hope that the year of the Dragon will bring you and your family good fortune. Wishing you all a joy-filled Chinese New Year," Vice Prime Minister Hon. Theo Heyliger said on Sunday.
