A second Blue Flag, an eco-label that symbolizes of environmental stewardship, was hoisted on St.Maarten on Wednesday.
St.Maarten is the first country in the Dutch Caribbean to have the Blie Flag locations. The hoisting of the Blue Flag locations is the culmination of work dating back to 2008. Blue Flag is awarded to beaches or marinas that meet a specific set of criteria concerning environmental information and education, water quality, safety services and environmental management. The programme is designed to raise enviornmental awareness and increase sound environmental practices among residents, tourists and the management and staff of marinas, beaches and resorts.
