TelEm Group technicians will be continuing with phase 3 of the company’s transfer of business and residential telephone lines in the Philipsburg area today (Thursday September 22nd.)
The technicians are targeting completion of 1000 plus lines from TelEm Group’s legacy DMS 100 digital switch to a more modern software-based CS2K Soft switch.
Some 1800 subscriber lines have already been transferred in the Philipsburg area since the cutover operation began there last month.
Philipsburg is the last area scheduled for the line transfers and the technicians are currently working on the final phase.
Close to 6,000 lines have been transferred from DMS100 digital switches in the Point Blanche, Dawn Beach, Ebenezer, Belvedere, Simpson Bay and Cole Bay areas to date.
As with with previous operations, today’s cutover is being carried out during the day so that technicians can have better contact with businesses and property owners while their premises are operational rather than at night when persons are not available to confirm connections are being properly made.
"We are home stretch to a successful cutover and all the benefits that we will be able to offer to customers by operating the soft switch," said Mr. Blijden.
He has meantime thanked the public for their continued patience and understanding for minor service interruptions that may result today.
